Ulumbu has Produced Electricity

RUTENG. The testing of electricity supply from Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) Ulumbu has officially been operated on Friday (11/11/2011). The 100 kilowatt (kW) will be distributed to four villages surrounding PLTP Ulumbu of the total capacity of 2xx2,5 MegaWatt (MW). It will be followed by the end of November 2011 that Ulumbu will lighten Ruteng, Manggarai District. Next by 2012, Ulumbu electricity starts distribute other districts in Flores Island. PLTP Ulumbu is a power plant utilizing geothermal energy located in Wewo Village, Satar Mese Sub-district, Central Manggarai District, East Nusa Tenggara, surrounding 22 km in south part of Ruteng.

“Since yesterday, Ulumbu has lightened four villages. By the end of November, there will be 2x2,5 MW installation to Ruteng cities. By 2012, electricity also will enter to neighborhood district and start by 2013 electricity of all Flores Island will be supplied from Ulumbu,” says the President Director of PLN, Nur Pamudji.

The operation PLTP Ulumbu was started by the drilling of the first well in 2003. The drilling was continued in 2006 by the drilling of the second and third well.

The second well in capacity 2x2,5 MW has succeeded in producing electricity for 100 kilowatt which lighten Wewo, Ponggeok, Umu, and Paka Village. For the third well will operate by 2012.

The ritual of buffalo cutting by Manggarai citizens signed the operation of PLTP Ulumbu. The Director of Operation PLN East Indonesia, Vicner Sinaga and General Manager of PLN NTT attended the event. (AK)
