Geological Agency, Host of GSJ-GA CCOP Groundwater Phase III

BALI - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to be host of The Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP-GSJ-GA) Groundwater Phase III Meeting, in Bali on 21 to 23 March. The goal of event CCOP-GSJ-GA is to identify perceptions and find the breakthroughs to conduct groundwater management more environmentally friendly with attention to sustainability.

Groundwater is a limited natural resource in the world. Because of lack of accountability and awareness of the importance of groundwater, especially, in the late 20th century, the land has been significantly disturbed by human activities, so that the ground water problems, such as land subsidence, sea water intrusion, pollution of ground water and soil management across borders. The countries of East and Southeast Asia are also facing many problems of land that needs international cooperation to solve.

"The purpose of the event is to cooperate related to groundwater management; increased insights, share experiences, and the capacity building of the participants, especially experts in the ground water Geological Agency," said Head of Geological Agency, Ego Syahrial to esdm.go.id Tuesday (21/3).

This event, further Ego, is a collaboration between the Geological Agency of the CCOP and GSJ. Participants who attended came from 12 countries in Asia, namely, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, China, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, PNG, Philippine, Thailand, and Vietnam, a clear Ego.

As the host, the Geological Agency will entertain guests with a welcome dinner participants as a venue for exchange of ideas and negotiation experts support the proposal of ground water to the advancement of groundwater management in Indonesia.

The event (CCOP-GSJ-GA) Groundwater Phase III Meeting, held in Bali from today 21-up on 23 March 2017. The event will begin with opening, each country report, the delivery of special materials and scientific discussions. "The participants will give suggestion, critics and recommendations for the implementation of groundwater management. As well as the last day field trip to M. Batur Geopark," said Ego. (NA)
