PLN Directors' Meeting Decided to Organize PLTP Sarula

JAKARTA. The President Director of PLN, Dahlan Iskan affirmed to organize Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) Sarulla (3x110 MW), Tapanuli, North Sumatera because the investor candidates could not finish the negotiation process.

The PLN directors' meeting, Tuesday (5/31) on 7 o’clock decided to organize PLTP Sarulla and would have started the physical project in the end of this year. According to Dahlan Iskan, the decision was made because PLN assess that Sarulla problem is not completed.

PLN has finished all negotiation process, but the investor candidates do not finish yet the negotiation with other related sides. PLN think that PLTP Sarulla seems like useless, whereas this project is very environmentally friendly and promising. To work on Sarulla no need to speculate because its steam and steam volume existence have been clear.

PLN feels so sorry for the slow of the project. Finally PLN decided to work on it itself. Planning Directorate of PLN started preparing planning to be able to start the project of PLTP Sarulla this year.

Initially, PLTP Sarulla was developed by Unocal North Sumatera Geothermal (UNSG) based on Joint Operation Contract (JOC) with Pertamina and Energy Sales Contract (ESC) with PT PLN (Persero). Its development met some obstacles such as price problem and term of condition. The electricity production of PLTP Sarulla will support electrification system of North Sumatera which recently have capability of generating power 1480 Mw with it maximum peak load 1200 Mw. (AK)
