MEDAN – Electricity produced by biomass-fueled power plant in urban areas will be priced more expensive. This was stated by Minister of EMR, Jero Wacik in his speech when inaugurated Biomass PLTU 2x 15 MW in Medan, North Sumatera, Monday (9/7).

“I am working on a new Ministerial Decision for power plant using biomass fuel in urban areas. I will make the price more expensive,” he said.

Jero Wacik stated that it was a good news. Previously, in last February the Minister of EMR issued Minister of EMR’s Regulation Number 4/2012 regarding Electricity Purchase Price by PT PLN using Renewable Energy in Small and Medium Scale or Electricity Excess.

At that time, electricity purchase price of biomass had been increased from about Rp 600 to Rp 975 per kWh.

“If the price increases again, it will encourage businessman to utilize waste for electricity, even in small scale. If we collect it, it will be big energy,” he said.

According to him, besides fulfilling electricity need by utilizing this biomass energy, it will also clean the waste from the environment. “People will compete to solve the urban waste problem,” he remarked. (AK)
