The power blackout which hit Bali several months ago was caused by damaged undersea transmission cables which supplies electricity from Java. To reduce power supply dependency, Bali is urged to build its own powerplant to add supply.
“The power blackout was caused by the damaged undersea transmission cables supplying Bali and Java” explains the Minister during the employees sending off on their yearly exodus (17/9).
Bali lost an estimated 200 MW of electricity due to the damaged transmission cables, causing an electricity deficit on the island. The Minister further explains, “Strong tides and high levels of rainfall have damaged undersea transmission cables which supplies 200 MW of electricity”.
Electricity in Bali is currently highly dependent on supplies from Java, underlining the need for an independent powerplant to fill current and future demands.
The Minister emphasized, “Bali residents are urged to support powerplant development in several locations, including Bedugul and Pemaron, because it will help Bali in becoming an independent province in terms of electricity supply. We would like Bali to become self sustainable, which is only possible if it has its own powerplant”.
Local residents are need not be alarmed because environmental impact research will be carried out to reduce the risk of environmental damage.
