Government Increases Electrification Ratio Through Solar Power

JAKARTA. The government is currently targeting an electrification ratio of 66,2% through communal Solar Home System (SHS) and Solar Powerplant programs. Beside these two programs, the government is also increasing PLN’s electrification ratio in all provinces. This was stated by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Darwin Zahedy Saleh during a hearing with Commission VII of the House of Representatives on Monday (9/11)

Solar Home System is the answer to fill home electricity demands by use of solar energy. A complete system consists of a solar module, battery, battery control unit, and inverter.

To increase electrification ratio, the government have allocated funds from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources 2009 budget to build renewable energy powerplants, electricity networks, and relay stations worth an estimated Rp. 658,7 billion. This program is projected to supply electricity to 94,000 households all over Indonesia, including the 18 outer islands, and border areas.

“The government have allocated Rp. 841,3 billion to develop PLN electricity networks for this 2009 fiscal year” explains the Minister. In the 2010 budget, electricity sector will receive Rp. 561,5 billion for 81,000 households in regional areas and another Rp. 591,5 billion for the development of PLN’s electricity networks.
