Fahmi Mochtar: Transformer Load at 70 Percent

PT PLN have increased their electricity supply in the Jakarta and surrounding area network, reducing its load to 70%.  High electricity loads for an extended amount of time will increase dielectric losses and thermal instability.

Based on the technological audit carried out by BPPT, the number 4 Main Relay Station of the Java – Bali system is loaded at 94% capacity, whereas its ideal maximum capacity is at 60%.  High loads of electricity for an extended period of time will increase the relay station’s temperature, risking a total failure of the system.

During the “Indonesia Economic and Political Outlook 2010” breakfast meeting, PLN President Director, Fahmi Mochtar explains that PLN have increased their electricity supply, reducing its maximum load to 70%.  This step is vital to secure electricity supply in the event of a transformer disruption on one unit, its load may be spread over to other units in the vicinity.

Fahmi Mochtar further added that PLN have strengthened their Jakarta and surrounding area network by adding electrical installations and main relay stations.  “The Jakarta system in 2010 have been strengthened with the addition of several electrical installations and main relay stations”.

To reduce loads, PLN have applied a load limit controller which have now been installed in 400 R3 class households, higher than the initial target of 200.
