ELECTRICITY

Stakeholders Invited for Electricity Fare Meeting

Prior to their meeting with the house of representatives, the government will firstly invite several parties representing consumers to hear their thoughts and views from each consumer groups.

“The government will invite company associations, the Indonesian Consumers Foundation, and other consumer groups in determining the amount of electricity rate hike from each consumer group” explains the Director General of Electricity and Energy Utilization, J. Purwono in Jakarta on Monday (15/3).

The Director General further added that 15% is an average rate, opening the possibility of a lower rate for low income consumers.  “Electricity rates for low income consumers may increase just below 10% or 5%, which is based on our simulations”.

J. Purwono explains that currently the government is in the process of simulating the electricity fare increase for each consumer groups by calculating their respective economic capacities.  This step shows the government’s dedication in supporting the welfare of its citizens. (TC)
