Increasing Gas as Fuel, PLN Cooperate with Pertamina

JAKARTA. The President Director of PT PLN (Persero), Dahlan Iskan and the President Director of Pertamina, Karen Agustiawan, Thursday (3/24) in Mulia Hotel, Jakarta signed Memorandum of Agreement concerning transportation system development and Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Receiving Terminal to fulfill gas need for electricity in east part of Indonesia and surroundings. Transportation system and LNG Receiving Terminal are the way to deliver LNG and received in the terminal which then converted to gas so that it could be used as primary energy of power plant.

By this cooperation, according to Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, Bambang Dwiyanto predicted fuel cost saving potency which could be done by PLN is about Rp. 874 billion/year. It also gives a better chance for PLN to decrease dependency to HSD fuel for Diesel Oil Power Plant (PLTD), which is replaced by gas so that it could decrease basic production cost (BPP). If BPP could be compressed, it affected government to decrease subsidized electricity.

Bambang explained that transportation system and LNG Receiving Terminal developed by PLN and Pertamina is by forming joint venture which is meant to fulfill gas as power plant’s primary energy to replace High Speed Diesel (HSD) Fuel or diesel oil. The agreement dealt consists of provide (achieve) LNG, then deliver it up to receiving terminal and convert it to gas to be distributed to generator.

In preparation stage to develop these transportation system and LNG Receiving Terminal, both PLN and Pertamina agreed to form Working Team which consists of both State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) representatives. In the future, this team will conduct studies related to technical, legal, commercial/financial aspect and also pre-feasibility study related to all series of this mini development of LNG receiving terminal.

Besides, gas need for PLN power plant could be easily fulfilled so that electricity supply availability becomes more efficient. (AK)
