2015, PLN Targeted the BBM Consumption for 2 -3 %

BANGLI. PT PLN (Persero) targeted to decrease the consumption of BBM (oil fuels) for the power plant operational approximately up to 2 to 3 % by 2015. “By 2015, BBM remain 2 to 3 %. Only for remote islands not having other alternative fuels, BBM consumption is required if needed,” said the President Director of PLN, Nur Pamudji after the inauguration of Rural Electricity Program in Bangli, Bali, Saturday (12/5/2012).

Nur Pamudji mentioned that for 2011, the consumption of BBM of PLN operational reached 23 % and for this year decreased to 15 %. “The needed BBM for power plant operational in 2012 decreased to 15 % or reached about 7 million kiloliter,” he said.

According to him, the BBM consumption will be converted to coal, water, and geothermal. “The most conversion will be to coal, including PLTU Paiton, which is going to be inaugurated in the near future by Minister of EMR,” he said.

Nur Pamudji also stated that the Government has determined Sumba Island, Nusa Tenggara Timur as the pilot area of using renewable energy electricity. Not only fulfilled from Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTM) Lokomboro inaugurated in the end of April, PLN will also try to fulfill the electricity need in Sumba Island by hydro and solar power.

The economy activity in Sumba Island is not yet developed well, so its electricity need is practically only for lightning in households. So, it could be fulfilled from the utilization of renewable energy,” he said. (AK)
