Australian entrepreneurs have stated their interest in developing renewable energy in Indonesia during the Renewable Energy Forum, held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (2/3). This forum is aimed at gathering Australian business entrepreneurs with Indonesian officials and entrepreneurs.
The Indonesian delegation was led by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Darwin Zahedy Saleh, accompanied by the Director General of Oil and Gas, Director General of Mineral Coal, and Geothermal, Special Staffs to the Minister, representative from the Directorate General of Electricity, President Director of Pertamina, entrepreneurs from the mining, CBM, and other private companies which are gathered under the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (KADIN).
Several Australian companies have stated their interest towards the development of geothermal powerplants. Integrated Renewable Energy Solutions, Pulse Energy, Thiess, and SKM have expressed that they ability in developing energy infrastructure for geothermal, solar, algae, and microhydro. The Australian entrepreneurs have stated their intention to develop biomass for electricity generation.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources explains that current regulations have given incentives for renewable energy companies to operate in Indonesia, as long as they have agreements with local partners, primarily for the development of generators under 10 MW.
Indonesia currently implements a feed in tariff system, with the government currently completing a bill regulating renewable energy. This bill is aimed at promoting the commercial access of modern energy to the general public.
