JAKARTA. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, stated that Indonesia will immediately follow up the energy investment offer in Iraq, which was stated by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy, Hussain Al-Shahristani in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/6/2012).
“Iraq plans to increase its oil production from 3 million barrel per day to 10 million barrel per day. This is our chance to participate. If we could take 10 % of those fields, then there will be significant effects for Indonesia,” said Jero Wacik after the bilateral meeting between Indonesia-Iraq concerning energy.
Jero Wacik also stated that currently Iraq is highly reconstructing to recover its economic condition and infrastructure. So that, Indonesia views Iraq as a strategic country especially in significant and important sector development programs.
Indonesia is also exploring a possibility to crude oil import directly from Iraq, so it will ease Indonesian refineries to produce oil fuels (BBM). “Concerning the quota and other techniques will be discussed more with Pertamina. We will immediately prepare a team to Iraq,” he said.
Jero Wacik affirmed that this cooperation will immediately follow up because it will give benefit for both countries. Indonesian Government will also encourage the involvement of BUMN (State-Owned Enterprises) and private sectors to participate in the development of infrastructure for the recovery economic condition of Iraq.
