BANDUNG - Mt. Anak Ranakah is located in the Regencies of Manggarai and East Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Geographically, Mt. Anak Ranakah is located at 08'38'06" South Latitude and 120'31'56" East Longitude, and the top peak is at 2,247.5 m asl (above the sea level). On 8th September 2011 at 04:00 pm Central Indonesia Time (CIT), the activity status of Mt. Anak Ranakah was increased from Advisory (level II) to Watch (level III).
Mt. Anak Ranakah seismic status until 5th October 2011 at 06:00 CIT was Watch (level III). On 4th October 2011 at 00:00 - 06:00 CIT, there was no earthquake recorded by the seismograph. At 06:00 - 12:00 CIT there were 2 deep-volcanic quakes (VA), the amplitude of which were 4 - 8 mm; 1 far-tectonic quake (TJ) with amplitude 45 mm and duration of 145 seconds.
At 12:00-06:00 pm CIT, there was 1 shallow-volcanic quake (VB) with amplitude 2.5 mm and duration of 9 seconds. At 06:00- 12:00 pm CIT, there were 2 far-tectonic quakes (TJ) with amplitude 7 - 30 mm and duration of 47 - 123 seconds.
On 5th October 2011 at 00:00 – 06:00 CIT, there were 3 deep-volcanic quake (VA) with amplitude 3 - 40 mm and duration of 4 - 5 seconds.
Hazard Threats
The higher volume of Mt. Anak Ranakah lava dome is very prone to any disturbance caused by gravity or pressure from inside the volcano so that material flow is often seen sliding down from the lava dome. Huge volume of material flow of the lava dome will form pyroclastic flow.
Based on instrumental and visual observation on 5th October 2011 at 06:00 CIT, the Center for Vulcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) has determined Mt. Anak Ranakah status is still at Watch (level II). If there are any significant changes of decrease/increase to the volcano’s activity, its level of activity may be changed accordingly.
With regard to Mt. Anak Ranakah status of "WATCH," it is recommended that people who live near the volcano and visitors/tourists not carry out any activities at the valleys of Wae Reno and Wee Teko Rivers within the radius of ± 7 km northwest, 1,5 km west, 1,5 km east and 1,5 km south from the crater of Mt. Anak Ranakah. (IY)
