Canadian Embassy Holds Seminar on Indonesia’s Mining Opportunities

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Purnomo Yusgiantoro on Monday (16/3) opened a Seminar on Indonesia’s Mining Opportunities in Bimasena, held by the Canadian embassy in cooperation with the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA). This seminar, part of Canada’s mining mission to Indonesia in searching for opportunities in Indonesia’s mining industry, is scheduled to end on Tuesday (17/3).

In his opening speech, the minister expressed that this activity shows the high level of interest shown by Canadian mining companies toward natural resource business opportunities in Indonesia. These natural resources include mineral and coal mining which is entering a new era after the new mining law is issued. “The mining law intended to benefit all stakeholders, so it is our shared responsibility to create a more modern and beneficial mining sector”.

Alongside the seminar, the mining mission also includes a networking session with members of the Indonesian Mining Association, and several site visits. Canadian mining companies attending this event consist of Barrick Gold, East Asia Minerals Corp, Kalimantan Gold Corp, Southern Arc Minerals, Sheritt International, Sierra Geological Corporation, and South East Asia Mining Corporation. This mining mission is scheduled to close on March 19th.
