The shortage of premium and diesel fuel in Jambi is currently returning to normal. This shortage is caused by detention of two fuel barges by Water Police, HC320 which collided into a Water Police patrol boat, and Taisir, which was caught selling its own use residual fuel. Both barges were released on July 2nd 2008.
The fuel supply in Jambi reached its lowest level on July 10th, premium and diesel respectively 4 KL and 9 KL. To alleviate this problem, fuel have been delivered by land transport from Kertapati and Lubuk Linggau depots. These deliveries have not been able to meet demands which caused fuel shortage and the need to implement fuel sale quota. Starting July 9th, the Elvina 3 barge with a capacity of 1.800 KL is mobilized for fuel delivery to the Jambi depot.
HC320 and Putra Musi barges unloaded it cargo on July 10th, with a capacity of 3.300 KL of fuel each. On the same day, the barge Taisir also unloaded its cargo containing 2.300 KL of fuel.
To anticipate this situation from repeating in the future, a floating storage will be placed in Muara Sabak or Batang Hari River, which will decrease the travel time and number of barges needed at the depot. In the long term, Pertamina plans to build a depot in Muara Sabak to further stabilize fuel supply.
