Petroleum Dependence Increases Subsidize

KLATEN. Petroleum/fuel oil dependence becomes the main factor for the high basic fee of PLN’s electricity production. PLN has produced electricity for about 25.000 MW from 30.000 MW in Indonesia. This reason causes the high allocation of electricity subsidize which is budgeted for about Rp 55, 1 billions.

“If we can decrease the petroleum dependence, we can save subsidize and this subsidize can be moved to health, prosperity, and also the installation of electricity to remote areas in Indonesia, especially in east area,” it was as stated by the Minister, Darwin Zahedy Saleh, in his visit to Electricity Generator Micro Hydro-based (PLTMH) Cokro Tulung, Klaten District, Middle Java (8/27).

The Minister also stated that by self-reliance of local government together with citizens, it is hoped that electricity portion produced by citizen/private can be more increasing. So for about 19 millions householder in Indonesia, especially for those in east Indonesia, can enjoy electricity which is produced by energy resource in each of their area as soon as possible.

“Our struggle is how distribute the energy up to the remote areas in Indonesia, especially by improving solar energy utilization, wind, wave, and also geothermal to accelerate national electrification ratio improvement, especially for areas outside Java-Bali,” continues the Minister.

Remembering this matter, said the Minister, citizens have to understand the purpose of Basic Electricity Tariff (TDL) adaptation, which implement per July 1st, 2010. This adaptation is for national concern, so subsidize given to the citizens is exactly on the target. It is also hoped that subsidize is not as same as the previous subsidize, which was also enjoyed by rich people, so subsidize’s burden became higher. (AK)
