Pertamina Prepares USD 600 Millions for 18 Tankers in 2010

JAKARTA. Pertamina keeps on doing expansion and strengthening shipping fleet by preparing USD 600 millions to buy 18 tankers up to the end of 2010. The increasing amount of these tankers will optimize Pertamina’s shipping capability in accordance with the cargo amount to reach an efficient fee. These tankers start strengthening shipping fleet of Pertamina’s shipping up to December 2010. This tanker’s buying program is part of Pertamina transformation in shipping field which is done to improve service level, improve efficiency, and performance improvement.

The buying of 18 tankers included 5 tankers in Indonesia which is equivalent with USD 87, 38 millions. These tankers will improve the cargo’s transport capability from 64, 9 millions LT (Long Ton) to 67, 3 million LT in 2012. The type of these tankers cover three tankers in size of 80.000 long ton dead weight (LTDW), five tankers 30.000 LTDW, two tankers 17.500 LTDW, one tanker 6.500 LTDW, two tankers 3.500 LTDW, two ships for transporting LPG 23.000 cubic meters, one LPG ship 5.500 cubic meters and two LPG ships 3.500 cubic meters.

This new armada will add transportation capability of crude oil from 31, 7 million LT to 32, 9 million LT in 2012, and also improve transportation capability of Non BBM product (Lubricant, Asphalt, Paraxylene, and LPG) from 5, 5 millions LT to 7, 4 millions LT in 2012. BBM cargo is maintained in the level of 27 millions LT because of infrastructure improvement and tanker’s reliability improvement. All tankers in the process of development are made in accordance with Indonesian state water. As long as the ship development process, Pertamina will supervise all shipyards periodically to guarantee development period’s accuracy.

Up to this time Pertamina has operated 190 tanker ships including 36 ships of Pertamina which is used to transport crude oil, refinery products and BBM, and also LPG transportation ship. The procurement of this new armada is part of big plan of rejuvenation and armada increasing. By stronger capability of Pertamina’s armada, it is hoped that it could improve the company performance, improve transportation efficiency and also decrease the dependence towards ship charter. (AK)
