OIL AND GAS

The Declining Rate of Petroleum Production is Three Percent by 2011

JAKARTA. The government predict that petroleum production by 2011 is about 960-875 barrel per day and is stated in National Budget (RAPBN) 2011 about 970 barrel per day as it is stated in the financial memorandum 2011. This lifting amount, based on the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources in Judgment Hearing Meeting last Monday (8/30), has considered condition and operational characteristic from existed oil fields.

“Related to petroleum lifting for macro RAPBN 2011 assumption, it can be said that to predict petroleum production, Indonesian government see the capability of existed field, declining rate of natural production, and production potential of development or field optimization and also production potential of new fields,” says the Minister of EMR.

Improvement effort for petroleum production, he continues, is done by development and field optimization which is hoped to press the declining rate of natural production from 12 percent to 3 percent.

That is why it is predicted that petroleum production by 2011 is about 960 to 970 barrel per day. Based on this matter, the government decide petroleum lifting in RAPBN 2011 is 970 thousand barrel per day. “This prediction has considered condition and operational characteristic of the existed oil field,” he says.

Related to oil and gas’ production amount to support financial state, the head of Oil and Gas R Priyono explained that in the planning arrangement of production target, we have coordinated with KKKS intensively. Through the pre program and budget discussion, which started early than last year, the targets given to the contractor is more accounted technically.

Reaching petroleum production target for 970 thousand barrel per day, Chevron is still the main contributor, however our big hope is still for Pertamina because some existed fields still have potential in increasing its production, Priyono continues.

Priyono gave a sample; onshore west Java was capable in increasing production for about 31 thousand barrel per day from production realization 2010 for about 26 thousand per day. Besides, Pertamina’s work field and its partner is also increased from 128 thousand barrel per day to 132 thousand barrel per day. (AK)
