JAKARTA. Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) has donated about 333.000 barrel of oil per day in 2011. The number is equivalent to 40 % of the total national production. This was stated by the Head of BPMIGAS, R. Priyono in Hearing with Commission VII DPR RI, Thursday (2/2).

“Up to the end of 2011, EOR both using water flood and steam flood has added production up to 333 million barrel per day or equivalent to 40 % of national production,” says Priyono. He added that PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) donated the biggest production increase up to 280 million barrel of oil per day.

Indonesia has been twice in the peak production; in 1977 when oil production reached 1, 65 million barrel per day. The production such number was produced from primary recovery production activity. The second peak production happened in 1995 when oil production was back about 1, 6 million barrel per day. The peak production could be achieved from EOR done by Chevron; waterflood in one of its field succeeded increasing production from 12 million barrel per day to 32 million barrel per day, and also steamflood in Duri Field proven able increasing production from 30 million barrel per day to 296 million barrel per day.

The third peak production in Indonesia is hoped happening again because of exploration and EOR, at least by having production more than 1 million barrel of oil per day. The future EOR activity in Indonesia not only could use steam injection but also is planned using chemist injection, and carbon gas injection. (AK)
