JAKARTA. Indonesian government explores the development of unconventional gas cooperation with American government to increase unconventional gas development such as CBM and Shale Gas.
“The development of unconventional oil and gas becomes Indonesian government’s priority to increase the activity of oil and gas exploration, face the lack of gas supply, promote energy diversification and suppress the dependency of oil fuel to increase national energy security, give clean energy to decrease emission and expand oil and gas availability,” says Director General of Oil and Gas, Evita H. Legowo in her speech in the 2nd United States-Indonesia Energy Investment Roundtable ‘Unconventional Gas’, Monday (6/2/2012).
Due to the uncertainty of unconventional gas development relating to production and time and also because it needs a big capital investment so Evita stated that Indonesian government will actively invite foreign investment. Through bilateral meetings, energy forum workshop, and conference, we offered unconventional gas investment chance to related investors and stakeholder. “Investment has become one of the main factors in taking unconventional gas development program to be succeeded,” says Evita.
According to her, the effort is supported with a policy supporting not only related governments but also investors. This has become our duty. Some incentive policies have been issued to support investment climate. However, communication and interaction between government and investors has to be maintained to keep the conducive investment climate.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Secretary for Policy and International Affairs, U.S. Energy Department, David Sandalow stated that American government committed to encourage the cooperation of unconventional gas with Indonesian government, so that we together with Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resource held Energy Investment Roundtable on the theme of 'Unconventional Gas' to hear important views from expert panelists.
