THE DEVELOPMENT OF EMPLOYEE STRIKE CASE
PT FREEPORT INDONESIA
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) commit to improve the investment condition to be conducive. MEMR is optimistic that by the role of all sides based on their own task and function, the problem of employee in Freeport could be solved.

The strike of most PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) employee has happened since September 15th, 2011. The total of PTFI employee are 12.740 people, 8.000 of them are actively participate in the strike. They claim salary increase to be adjusted with Freeport employee in United States of America.

The continuous strike triggered anarchy action on Monday, October 10th, 2011 which caused one victim from demonstrator and also some injured both from demonstrators and also security forces. In Saturday, October 15th, 2011 another victim called Leo Wandagau died. Leo Wandagau is an employee of PTFI coming from 7 tribes, so it triggered a bigger mass demonstration and local employee.

As a form of MEMR commitment to help solving the problem, Mining Inspector has been placed continuously on the spot to make sure that every activity of infrastructure and equipment maintenance is done to avoid accidents or environmental pollution in recent days and in the future.

MEMR, who is Coordinating Minister of Politics, Legal, and Security based on its task and function will be able to solve the security problem in PT Freeport Indonesia which disturbs the operation of PTFI. MEMR ask all sides to contribute in solving the problem and keep on improving coordination to avoid a bigger problem in the future.
