INDONESIAN POWERS & ELECTRICITY EXPO (IPEX) 2011
Jakarta Convention Center

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), Jero Wacik, Tuesday (15/11/2011) opened the event of Indonesian Powers & Electricity Expo (IPEX) 2011. The event is held for two days (November 15th – 16th, 2011) and attended by the member of Commission VII DPR RI, officials of Ministry of EMR and related institutions, private sectors, universities, association of electricity sectors and also other invited guests. The IPEX 2011 is in form of exhibition, conference, and electricity workshop.

IPEX 2011 is a series of ASEAN Fair 2011 opened by the President of RI on October 24th, 2011 in Nusa Dua Bali. The theme of IPEX 2011 is “The Readiness of Electricity Sub-sector in Free Market Era”. IPEX 2011 is meant to collect advices of stakeholders to improve national competitiveness and anticipate free market era to support electricity development and become an appropriate media in socializing policy and government program in electricity sectors.

Regional cooperation (AFTA, CAFTA, and APEC) gives a big influence in electricity infrastructure development in Indonesia. The regional cooperation is very encouraged by Indonesian interest to anticipate and prepare itself in facing the free world trade and also secure national interest. By the opening of free market among countries both regional and world scale, in one side open a very wide cooperation chance among countries, but in other hand bring a sharper and firm competition. The main challenge of free market in electricity sector in the future is the increase of competitiveness and competitive advantage in electricity sectors by depending on human resources capability, technology, and management.

Paying attention to recent electricity condition, in which the growth of electricity needs about 9, 5 % per year with electrification ratio 2010 reach about 67, 2 %, so in IPEX 2011 is hoped to be able to encourage private sector participation, BUMD (Regional-Owned Enterprises), Cooperation, and governmental organizations in supplying electricity through a healthy and transparent investment mechanism.

The government keeps on increasing the supply of national electricity. The additional capacity of new power plants through Fast Track Program 10.000 MW Stage I and II. Fast Track Program 10.000 MW Stage I up to August 2011 has finished 2.315 MW and is hoped by the end of 2011 in total capacity of 4.650 MW could strengthen electricity system in Indonesia. Fast Track Program 10.000 MW Stage II is now preceding bid process and hoped by the end of 2011 the bid could be finished.

The development of electricity sector is directed to be oriented to capability in domestic. The increase of domestic component in electricity sector development is hoped to be able to give a trigger for the growth of local industries. The implementation of Indonesian National Standard (SNI) becomes an important thing to do to guarantee the product quality and competitiveness in electricity sector, and also becomes a filter for the import of foreign products not fulfilling the standard. The fulfilling of safety standard in every electricity installation based on what has been stated in Law Number 33 Year 2009 is a compulsory to do.

The development of electricity supply needs a synergy among stakeholders; policy, research, fund, and its utilization has to be well coordinated, so it could create a synergy. So that, it is hoped through the IPEX 2011, could add and give constructive ideas and advices to support the development program in electricity sector so in the future there will be more local industries involved in development of electricity infrastructure both in Indonesia and regional along with the increase of quality and competitiveness of local industries towards foreign industries.
