THE SIGNING OF MoU BETWEEN PT. PERTAMINA GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

AND GEOTHERMAL NEW ZEALAND

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resource, Jero Wacik together with Minister of Trade of New Zealand, Mr. Tim Groser today witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) and Geothermal New Zealand (GEONZ). The type of agreed cooperation in the MoU includes, but unlimited upon:

1. Geothermal laboratory construction operated together.

2. Joint research of geological, geophysical, and regional reserve.

3. The assistance of implementation on acid brine treatment in Lahendong Field.

4. The assistance of quality improvement for human resources of PT. PGE, which includes advanced training and education in University of Auckland, and

5. Facilitating the cooperation between Indonesian geothermal enterprises with New Zealand.

The signing of the MoU is the follow up of the geothermal cooperation between Minster of EMR and Minister of Trade of New Zealand, which had been signed in the morning in the presence of the Head of State of both countries in Independent Palace.

Indonesia has abundance geothermal potency spreading in 276 areas all over Indonesia, however only 1,226 Mwe have been explored or 5 % of the total geothermal potency of 29 Gwe. Geothermal development in Indonesia cooperating with New Zealand has been performed along the period of 1972-1980. This cooperation is the second phase that is meant to hasten the utilization of geothermal in Indonesia.

To the future, the utilization of geothermal energy is predicted reaching 12.000 MWe. To achieve the target of mix energy of 25 % by 2025, the government through Ministry of EMR keeps on performing various efforts to reach the target.
