MINISTER OF EMR INAUGURATED PLTU PAITON 3 (1 X 815 MW)

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, on Tuesday (5/6) officially inaugurated the operation of PLTU Paiton 3 in capacity of 1 x 815 MW, which is located in Jl. Raya Surabaya Situbondo Km 141, Paiton, Probolinggo, East Java Province. The inauguration is an effort to fulfill electricity need in Java-Bali electricity system and also an effort of non-oil fuel power plant diversification

PLTU Paiton 3 supplies electricity power to Java-Bali electricity system for 815 MW. The project is an expansion power plant using super critical technology (more efficient than conventional PLTU) by having the first biggest unit capacity currently developed by Independent Power Producer (IPP) that is PT Paiton Energy Company with investment value of US$ 1, 5 Billion.

Initially the power plant had to operate on April 22^nd, 2012, but the realization was able to commercially operate one month earlier than the previous schedule, March 18^th, 2012. The finishing of PLTU Paiton 3 one month earlier gave a potential saving of fuel cost for ± Rp 1, 1 Trillion comparing to BBM consumption. By the operation of PLTU Paiton 3, PT Paiton Energy Company becomes the biggest IPP in Paiton plant complex with total capacity for 2.035 MW or approximately 7 % of the total capacity in Java-Bali.

The Government hoped that this achievement becoming a good example for other power plant projects spreading all over Indonesia because not only giving capacity addition but also this non-oil fuels power plant saving fuel cost component quite significant which is able to suppress the allocation of electricity subsidy provided by the Government.

The electricity supply addition from PLTU Paiton 3 is 815 MW, so the capacity of Java-Bali electricity system will increase approximately 29.231 MW.
