National Energy Grand Strategy to Ensure Energy Availability

To ensure that energy is sufficiently available, of high quality, affordable, and environmentally friendly, the Indonesian Government has formulated an Energy Grand Strategy for 2020-2040, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif has said.

"The Grand Strategy includes plans to reduce oil and LPG imports. To reduce oil imports, we will increase oil lifting, promote electric vehicle development, improve old oil refineries and construct new ones, and develop renewable energy. Besides, we will encourage the use of electric stoves, develop city gas networks, and use Dimethyl Ether (DME) to reduce LPG imports," Minister Arifin said when virtually opening the 9th IndoEBTKE Conex 2020 on Monday (23/11).

Minister Arifin went on to say that the Indonesian Government has issued Law Number 16 of 2016 on Ratification of the Paris Agreement, targeting the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The target has been set at 29% through unilateral actions and 41% with international assistance.

"The energy sector is expected to reduce emissions by 314-398 million tonnes of CO2," added Minister Arifin.

Additionally, the Indonesian Government has issued a number of regulations on the provision of low-emission energy, such as Government Regulation Number 79 of 2014 on National Energy Policy and Presidential Regulation Number 22 of 2017 on National Energy Master Plan (RUEN).

"According to the RUEN, renewable energy mix is targeted at 23% by 2025 and 31% by 2050," Minister Arifin concluded.

On the same occasion, several cooperation agreements were signed, namely:

  1. between Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of Ministry of EMR and PT Aka Sinergi, PT Akuo Energi, PT Brantas Energi, and PT Pasadena Biofuels Mandiri on Acceptance of Technical Assistance Grant from Sustainable Energy Fund to Enhance Project Bankability and Access to Finance,
  2. between Mentari and Arya Watala Capital on Technical Assistance Grant for Replacing Diesel Power with Solar PV+,
  3. between Aryaduta Hotel and Enertec Mitra Solusi on Energy Saving Program Replacing HVAC System for 4 Hotels,
  4. Joint Memorandum between Mercu Buana University and the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI) on Education, Research, and Community Service.

The IndoEBTKE Conex also featured an awarding ceremony of Solar PV Rooftop Champions 2020. The winners include former (2016-2019) Energy Minister Ignasius Jonan, Various Renewable Energy Director of Ministry of EMR Harris Yahya, PT Summarecon Agung Tbk., PT Tirta Investama, Coca Cola Amatil Indonesia, and PT Astra Honda Motor. The awards have been sponsored by the National Movement of One Million Rooftops (GNSSA), a group of various stakeholders that champions the development of solar rooftop systems in Indonesia.

IndoEBTKE ConEx is an integrated event dedicated to drive the growth and development of sustainable energy in Indonesia. Derived from the abbreviation of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation as 'EBTKE', the event is an official annual agenda of the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI/IRES) with full support from Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
