Indofood Won Energy Management Leadership Awards in 11th Clean Energy Ministerial

Continuing Indonesia's success in the previous years, the Noodle Division of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk drove Indonesia a winner of the Energy Management Leadership Awards, a pre-event of the 11th Clean Energy Ministerial International Forum (CEM11) which was held online on Tuesday (15/9).

Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Sutijastoto, who was present on the occasion to represent Minister of EMR, expressed his appreciation for the company's success and hoped that in the future the industrial sector would make bigger contribution in advancing clean energy in Indonesia.

"The industrial sector is very cooperative in applying energy efficiency because efficiency is in line with their efforts to reduce production costs. For large industries such as cement, steel, textiles and chemicals, energy costs dominate the structure of production costs, so energy efficiency will help them reduce production costs and eventually increase competitiveness," said Sutijastoto.

Sutijastoto went on to say that in order to implement the clean energy management in a systematic and sustainable manner, the Indonesia government had updated and adopted international standards on Energy Management Systems which would gradually be implemented as national standards for industry.

Indonesia sent two participants at the 11th CEM, namely the Noodle Division of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk. and Units 5 and 6 of Paiton Steam-fueled Power Plant (PT Jawa Power) to compete in the Energy Management Leadership Awards, a prestigious event for companies that have successfully implemented ISO 50001 on energy management systems.

The pre-event discusses leadership and the impacts of global energy management, followed by a high-level dialog between energy ministers and high-level private sector representatives on promoting clean energy in industry.

The panel also discusses opportunities and strategies to promote clean energy and increase energy productivity in industry. This high-level dialog is aimed at understanding the approaches taken by governments and industry in addressing these issues, and identifying actions that the CEM community can take together with the public and private sectors to place industry on clean and sustainable energy.

The theme of this year's CEM is "Supporting the recovery, shaping the future", which focuses on two main issues: 1) CEM and its community role in supporting a rapid, sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic; and 2) the vision and ambition of CEM members for the next cleaner energy decade.

Indonesia has actively participated in the Energy Management Leadership Awards since 2016. In the last two years, Indonesian representatives won the awards, namely PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali UP Gresik in 2018 and PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur in 2019. (IY)
