Indonesia, Switzerland Sign Project Arrangement on Renewable Energy Development

Head of Human Resource Development Agency of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (BPSDM ESDM), Prahoro Nurtjahyo, has expressed his wish that a newly signed Project Agreement (PA) between Indonesia and Switzerland can improve human resource capacity and productivity of new and renewable energy managers in both countries.

The Project Arrangement (PA) was signed on Wednesday (2/12) by Prahoro, who represented the BPSDM ESDM, and Mr. Kurt Kunz, Swiss Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste, dan ASEAN, who represented the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation.

The PA will include the development of formal dan non-formal trainings in the new, renewable energy subsector as well as other activities in the context of knowledge exchange and capacity building.

The PA is a follow-up to a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Minister of EMR Arifin Tasrif and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation on 9 October 2020.

The Indonesia-Switzerland collaboration has grown out of the desire of the two countries to increase their contribution to the global clean energy transition. Indonesia has made a pledge to increase renewable energy by 23% by 2025 and by 31% by 2050, while Switzerland has committed to reducing fossil fuel by 20% by 2020.

The main sources of energy in Switzerland are oil, natural gas, nuclear power, and hydropower. Since 2005, Switzerland has seen a surge in the use of renewable energies such as ambient heat, biomass, wind power, and solar power. (IY)
