Minister of EMR Expects New Director General of NREEC to Realize Renewables Strategic Programs
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Arifin Tasrif officially appointed Dadan Kusdiana as Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (NREEC) on Friday (6/11). Dadan replaces F.X. Sutijastoto, who retired.
"I hope you can help realize renewables strategic programs," said Arifin while swearing in Dadan at Chairul Saleh Building of Secretariat General of Ministry of EMR in Jakarta.
Arifin hopes Dadan can answer the challenges in speeding up the economic recovery process after the Covid-19 pandemic through green economy. One of the efforts to be made is by increasing the portion of renewables mix in the national energy mix to 23% by 2025. "Currently, the realization of renewables mix isstill below 10%," he said.
Other programs highlighted by Arifin are energy saving program and geothermal exploration that must be carried out massively. In a two-year period (2022-2024), Ministry of EMR targets to develop 20 WKP (Geothermal Work Areas) with a capacity of 683 Mega Watt (MW).
Another homework for the new Director General is developing renewables-based power plants from water, bioenergy (municipal waste), wind, and solar. "Currently, development of renewables power plants has only contributed 10.44 Giga Watts (GW)," said Arifin.
Finally, the new Director General must accelerate the drafting of a presidential regulation which regulates the purchase of electricity from renewables at competitive prices. "This is to attract investors to renewables development," said Arifin.
Dadan Kusdiana previously served as Head of Research and Development Agency for Energy and Mineral Resources, Advisor to Minister of EMR for Economy and Natural Resources, Head of Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation, and Director of Bioenergy at Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation.
