Energy Ministry Hands Over Solar System Assets to Armed Forces

Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) on Tuesday (23/11) signed a record of status transfer (BAST Transfer Status) of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with Logistic Assistant to the Commander (Panglima) of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Marsda TNI Sujatmiko G.S. A total of 22 centralized solar systems and 3 rooftop solar systems were handed over to the Armed Forces for management and maintenance.

In his opening remarks, Ego said that Indonesia was a vast archipelagic country, in terms of land and waters, and consisted of more than 17,000 islands. With these geographical conditions, the TNI has a demanding duty to maintain Indonesia's defense and security, especially in border areas. For this reason, the TNI needs support from various parties, including the Ministry of EMR.

"The cooperation between the TNI and the Ministry of EMR is the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation Agreement signed in 2017 and 2018, respectively. The Ministry of EMR has conducted a number of activities, such as the construction of centralized solar systems at the Guard Posts of the Navy (TNI AL), the provision of Energy-Efficient Solar Lamps (LTSHE) to support the duties of the Indonesian Marine Corps in areas without access to electricity, the installation of rooftop solar systems at the General Headquarters (Mabes) of the TNI as a pilot project, and the construction of centralized solar systems at border areas with no access to PLN-operated grids," said Ego.

Ego also said that the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (DG NREEC) in cooperation with the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of EMR was constructing centralized solar systems at 23 Guard Posts of the TNI on the border, with a completion target in December 2021.

Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Dadan Kusdiana, said that the infrastructure built by DG NREEC at the premises of the TNI between 2018 and 2019 totalled Rp47,093,071,240. About Rp13 billion's worth of the infrastructure had been handed over to the TNI AL, while the 25 facilities transferred this day are worth Rp33,868,459,240.

Dadan went on to say that DG NREEC was constructing 23 centralized solar power systems at Indonesia's border posts in four provinces, namely West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, and Papua. Thirteen solar power plants have been completed and used by TNI personnel who are on duty, while the remainder are targeted for completion in the second week of December 2021.

Logistic Assistant to the Commander of the TNI, Marsda TNI Sujatmiko G.S., said the TNI highly appreciated the support. The TNI can reduce its electricity bills, while isolated guard posts get electricity access.

"Thank you, and my highest appreciation goes to Secretary General of the Ministry of EMR for finding time and organizing this ceremony to mark the transfer of solar power system assets from the Ministry of EMR to the Mabes TNI. I hope the construction of solar power systems based on the cooperation between the Ministry of EMR and the Mabes TNI will continue well into the future at sites near the Mabes TNI office buildings and guard posts that do not have solar power systems yet," Sujatmiko concluded.
