Groundbreaking of Cirebon-Semarang Gas Transmission Section

Minister of EMR, who was represented by Secretary General concurrently Acting Director General of Oil and Gas of Ministry of EMR, Ego Syahrial, led the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of Cirebon-Semarang gas transmission section, on Friday (7/2), at Rest Area Km 379 A of Batang-Semarang tollway.

The groundbreaking was marked with Mr. Syahrial pushing the siren together with Head of BPH Migas, Fanshurullah Asa, member of Presidential Advisory Board, Habib Luthfi Bin Yahya, President Director of PT Rekayasa Industri, Yanuar Budinorman, Governor of Central Java who was represented by Acting Provincial Secretary of Central Java, Herru Setiadhie, and Senior Expert of the KSP, Yusuf Didi Setiarto.

Ego explained the construction of Cirebon-Semarang gas transmission section was expected to become a solution to the non-optimum development of industrial estates due to limited energy infrastructure because there had been no guarantee of supply and continuity of energy, in particular natural gas, as both fuel and industrial raw material in Central Java.

"We (Ministry of EMR) believe that PT Rekayasa Industri will continue to show its commitment by completing the project according to the assigned time of 24 months," said Ego.

The industrial estates referred to are set out in Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2019 on Acceleration of Economic Development of Kendal-Semarang-Salatiga-Demak-Grobogan Region, Purworejo-Wonosobo-Magelang-Temanggung Region, and Brebes-Tegal-Pemalang Region, stating that the acceleration and equal economic development of the regions in Central Java include the quick win of Kendal Industrial Estate and the quick win of Brebes Industrial Estate.

In addition, along the Cirebon-Semarang gas transmission section, BPH Migas has submitted to the Minister of EMR, based on the proposal of Business Entities, the proposal to include Natural Gas Distribution Network Area (WJD) of Semarang, Kendal, Batang, Pekalongan, Pemalang, Tegal, Brebes, and Cirebon Regencies into the Natural Gas Transmission and Distribution Network National Master Plan (RIJTDGBN). Based on the data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), there are 2,632,668 households along this transmission section who are potential to become consumers of household gas networks (Jargas) and who will buy the gas at a price determined by BPH Migas.

Head of BPH Migas, Fanshurullah Asa, in his remarks said that the Cirebon-Semarang pipelines were strategic infrastructure which was a part of the National Strategic Project that would connect the Java pipelines (Trans Jawa) from Banten to East Java of 1,538 km long. In addition, the pipelines would support the integration of the Trans Sumatera and the Trans Jawa with a total length estimated at 3,574 km, with KEK Sei Mangke-Dumai section have not put out to tender and by using dedicated downstream pipelines at Muara Bekasi-Tegalgede of 37 km as open access (3rd party access) pipelines.
