Center for Volcanology and Mitigation of Geological Hazards (PVMBG), Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources drops the status of Tangkuban Parahu volcano from the previously Level II (Advisory) to Level I (Normal). This status is effective from 21 October 2019 at 09.00 Indonesia's Western Standard Time (WIB).

"Effective from 21 October 2019 at 09:00 WIB, PVMBG drops the status of Tangkuban Parahu from Level II (Advisory) to Level I (Normal). PVMBG will continue to evaluate the status to anticipate the activity level and potential threat of eruption," said Head of PVMBG, Kasbani, Monday (21/10).

Tangkuban Parahu is an active volcano located in West Bandung and Subang Regencies, West Java Province. The volcano usually spews phreatic eruption from its Ratu Crater. A series of eruption in 2019 started with a phreatic eruption on 26 July 2019, blasting greyish-black eruption columns as high as 200 m-300 m from the crater bottom, followed by a continuous series of eruption in August 2019, producing white-thick grey eruption columns of 120 m-200 m from the crater bottom. The last eruption occurred on 7 September 2019.

At Level I (Normal), Kasbani requests visitors/tourists/climbers to be aware of the increasing concentration of life-threatening gases that may still leak from around active craters.

"People living around Tangkuban Parahu and visitors/tourists/climbers are recommended to not go down to Ratu Crater nor go down/come close to other active craters of Tangkuban Parahu," Kasbani requests. (IY)
