Two Charging Stations Installed at Directorate General of Electricity

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) has continued to support the efforts to develop electric vehicle ecosystems. This is shown by the inauguration of two charging stations (SPKLU) at the office Directorate General of Electricity in Jakarta. The ceremony took place on Tuesday (4/1/2022), by Director of Electricity Business Fostering Ida Nuryatin Finahari, PLN's Director of Commerce and Customer Management Bob Saril, and PLN's Jakarta General Manager Doddy B. Pangaribuan. Representatives from the Indonesian Electric Car Community (KOLEKSI) also attended the ceremony.

"On this occasion, I'd like to express my appreciation to PT PLN (Persero) for its role and contribution to the development of battery electric vehicle (BEV) ecosystems, in particular through the provision of charging stations at government offices," said Ida.

Ida went on to say that PLN should continue to collaborate with various stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of BEV.

The two charging stations inaugurated are a blue Delta of 25kW DC and 22kW AC, and a black Phihong of 30kW DC. Both are medium charging stations with charging duration of 4 hours, suitable for office buildings where cars are parked for a quite long time.

On the same occasion, Bob Saril said energy transition had to be done to ensure energy availability in the future. He also said that transition would improve trade balance as it reduced the costs of importing energy.

"In G20 meetings and COP26 conference, Indonesia announced that it would reach Net Zero Emission by 2060. Therefore, the transition to more environmentally friendly energy needs to be speeded up. In the transportation sector, this means to accelerate the use of electric vehicles," Bob added.

According to Bob, electric vehicles are more economical and more environmentally friendly than internal combustion engine vehicles. Bob explained that it only costs an electric vehicle Rp1,100 to travel a 10-km distance, while a gasoline-fueled vehicle needs Rp9,000 to travel the same distance.

PLN also offers other facilities to electric vehicle owners.

"PLN gives discounts for home charging installation and power addition for PLN customers who own electric vehicles. For power addition, customers will only have to pay Rp150,000, from a normal tariff of Rp4.8 million. And we also do home charging installation. When you install a home charger, you can add power for free. Additionally, there is a 30% discount for daily use between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.," Bob said.

Bob went on to say that as the business entity with a mandate to pioneer and boost BEV ecosystem based on Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 on Acceleration of the Battery Electric Vehicle Program for Road Transportation and Regulation of Minister of EMR Number 13 of 2020, PLN has continued to add the number of SPKLU.

"A total of 114 SPKLU have been installed and used throughout Indonesia," Bob concluded.

To support the electric vehicle ecosystem, PLN has added an SPKLU feature to its 'PLN Mobile' application that will help users find an SPKLU to charge their vehicles.(IY)
