Anticipating Covid-19, PLN and IPP Asked to Prepare Strategic Measures to Maintain Electricity Supply
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) has asked the holders of Electricity Supply Business Licences (IUPTL), i.e. PT PLN and Independent Power Producers (IPP), to take strategic measures and policies amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Director General of Electricity of Ministry of EMR, Rida Mulyana, through letter number 683/21/DJL.1/2020 of 30 March 2020 on Strategic Measures to Maintain Electricity Supply and Availability states the policies are needed to maintain supply reliability and availability of electricity for the public during the emergency period of Covid-19 handling in Indonesia.
"One of the policies is by securing and ensuring the supply chain of primary energy, including the supply of coal," stated Rida.
Besides, Rida emphasizes that companies must ensure the safety and the stamina of all personnel working in the front line of primary energy supply chain to power plants. "We expect all working personnel are equipped with sufficient personnel protection," Rida expressed.
Rida further states that if there are any challenges in securing the supply chain, Rida requests IUPTL holders to immediately coordinate with relevant authorities, and/or report the challenges to Directorate General of Electricity.
The government ensures public service related to energy provision, especially electricity supply, runs normally, amid the Covid-19 plague. Electricity is a vital source of energy for public service and hospitals during the current pandemic. (IY)
