SEMARANG - Director General New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (DG NREEC) proposes three geothermal working areas (WKP) to be established into WKP this year.

Considering that from 23 percent of renewable energy mix by 2025, Geothermal is targeted to contribute 7.2 Gigawatt (GW) or equivalent to 7,200 MW. This means that in the past 8 years from now it must encourage the utilization of Geothermal energy to reach 450 percent of current utilization. This is a challenge that can only be achieved with our hard work and cooperation as stakeholders and policy implementers.

Director of Geothermal, Yunus Saefulhak said the three WKP covers geothermal potential such as Cubadak - Panti, Pasaman District, West Sumatera Province, Sumani, Solok District, West Sumatera Province and last Kadidia, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province.

"The three areas of the proposed WKP are the result of the Preliminary Survey conducted by the Government, in this case conducted by the Geological Agency, Ministry of EMR," he said in the Meeting of WKP Determination Plan of 2017 in Semarang on Friday, April 28, 2017.

The government, continued Yunus, hopes the development of the three WKP will be able to increase the electrification ratio and can encourage economic growth in the area.

"The WKP determination plan is implemented transparently through the preparation of geothermal development roadmap by considering Geothermal Geothermal potential maps and in the process of determining them in a participatory manner through coordination with relevant agencies, provincial and / or government Districts / cities concerned and involving academics / practitioners in the field of Geothermal, "he explained.

With the WKP determination process implemented in a participatory and transparent manner, according to Yunus, it is expected that the development can run smoothly so as to provide investment assurance in the field of Geothermal. "In the determination of WKP must also meet the criteria of assessment and processing of data preparation of Work Areas in accordance with the mandated in Article 4 paragraph (2) Regulation of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 11 of 2008 on Procedures Determination of WKP," he said.

Yunus explained that until now the Government has determined 70 WKP with details of 10 WKP has been produced, 25 WKP in Exploration and Exploitation phase, 1 WKP in IPB issuance process (WKP Seulawah Agam), and 35 WKP in preparation of assignment to SOE and WKP auction.

"Geothermal needs to be developed optimally to be able to provide a uniform benefit throughout the archipelago, given that until now the utilization of Geothermal has not run optimally," he said.

In fact, Yunus added, despite the geothermal potential of abundant utilization as a power plant for the period 2006 to date from 852 MW to 1643.5 MW MW or an average of about 79.15 MW / year so it needs the support of all parties to accelerate the utilization All the potential of geothermal in Indonesia including the development of potential that is in the Conservation Forest area considering there are arrangements again in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. "This is one of the challenges we must address together," he said.

To overcome obstacles in the development of geothermal, Yunus explained, the Government made breakthroughs to accelerate the development of Geothermal, among others, Assignment of Preliminary Surveys and Geothermal Exploration, Government Drilling, WKP auction in the Indonesian part East, Geothermal Assignment to SOEs and finally Licensing and non-licensing in geothermal fields.

"The achievement of Geothermal utilization targets will certainly provide greater benefits for the State, whether in the form of tax or non-tax revenue and multiple effects provided through the opening of new jobs," he concluded. (NA)
